OBITUARY

L. Yager Cantwell, a prominent Chicago lawyer died February 22, 2000, in La Jolla, California. He was born in 1918 in Oak Park, Illinois.

"Lightening struck my law practice June 25, 1949," Yager said, "when, for the first time, I invited the Holy Spirit of God to intervene. A frequent visitor to Sam Shoemaker's "faith at work" meetings at Calvary (Episcopal) Church in NYC, Yager witnessed the Holy Sprit "transform cross examinations, dominate depositions, electrify crowded courtrooms, crash through mountainous piles of litigation and rule the heart core of many cases."

In 1956 Yager married Janet Marie Hanssen, also a Chicago resident. They moved to Rancho Santa Fe, California in 1963. Yager is survived by his two children, Andrea Cantwell Kazar now living in Budapest, Hungary, and David Yager Cantwell of Newport Beach, California, and his five grandchildren: three by his daughter: Christine, Esther and Hannah Kazar; and two by his son, James and Aidan Cantwell.

Yager became a member of the Faith@Work Board of Directors in 1965 and celebrated his 80th birthday at his last Board meeting. Be sure to read Yager's story,  Chicago Lawyer Sees Sam from Irving Harris' book, Breeze of the Spirit.
