 Faith@Work Magazine
Theme for 2,000

Would you be able to write an article for Faith@Work magazine this year? We depend upon people like you to describe your spiritual experience in everyday language. We are not looking for preachy advice or victorious stories, but rather the daily struggles to live a faithful and committed life on behalf of God’s good creation. Readers most often respond to stories of being surprised by grace–by an unexpected encounter with Christ or “the Holy” in our midst. In this cynical and secular age, we want to focus on “Finding Hope in the Holy” to begin the next Millennium.

Theme: Finding Hope in a Changing World

1) Finding Hope: Choices in a Changing World (Nov 15)...Epiphany
Bible study: Mark 9:38 "whoever is not against us is for us"
  • moving beyond either/or thinking
  • institutional changes
  • family traditions: holidays, reconfiguring families
  • morality
  • wealth and what to buy with it
  • how to find time for reflection
  • how to find balance/ to complement what's consuming us
  • look for articles around body/family/society and world (global economics)
  • 2) Finding Hope: Children in a Changing World (Feb 15)...Lent/Easter
Bible study: "Who is my father and mother?" or "Become as a child"
  • children are either the center of attention or discards
  • time pressures on parents
  • lots of activities, competition, performance, high expectations
  • need mentoring, relationship with a caring adult (not necessarily a parent)
  • violence, scapegoating, in & out of crowd, peer pressure
  • advertising: created needs, expectation
  • outdoor education, care for the earth
  • grandparenting as a call to service
  • 3) Finding Hope: Community in a Changing World (May 15)...Pentecost 4) Finding Hope: Caring in a Changing World (Aug 15)....Christmas Articles should be 650 words long, based on personal experience and relationship with God. Generally we seek stories of call, discovery of gifts, ministry among the excluded and deepening the "inner journey" as a guidance system in a changing world.
