True Priests

by Klaus Luthardt

There walk among us, without priestly robes,
Those who lead us from despair
Into the light where joy resides.
Their consecration needs no pontiff.
Response became their sacred ritual
As they grew out of childhood
And took their place among us.
Men seek them out instinctively,
Searching for the strength to live in truth.
No creed but love, no sermon
Save the giving of themselves,
These are the true priests among us,
Magnetic, radiant, suns in the making.
Their hearts will harbor all.
In their mind a greater mind indwells.
They have no care about the man-made name
With which you speak of God.
They are the sons who know their Father's business,
Give each day to His unfolding plan
