About 12 years ago I was asked to teach a class on Small
Groups for the UCC Evangelism Institute. I knew nothing about small groups but a
friend, Barbara Steele, gave me the F@W magazine because she knew that “it would
help me understand small groups”. The magazine introduced me to many wonderful
resources and, most important, to Faith At Work.
Not long after my introduction to F@W, Marjory Bankson invited me to attend a F@W “New Gen” event. I loved it because it reminded me of “camp for grown-ups”. During my formative years, Camp Lutherlyn was where I heard the still small voice of God and I longed for that experience again. Faith At Work gave it to me.
I was asked to join the Faith at Work board in 1994 and have been part of this marvelous ministry ever since. So much of what I have learned through this organization has served me well in the other arenas of my life whether that be teaching graduate school or facilitating retreats for organizations.
It only seemed natural to bring my new husband, Daniel Davis, into the circle of F@W when we married in 2001. Dan immediately became interested in the Guatemala Pilgrimages. He had gone to Africa on a mission trip in college and always wanted to pick up that call again. Faith At Work helped him do that.
We have been faithful givers to F@W because we believe that this ministry feeds people like no other. Recently we made a contribution to Faith At Work with a specific request. We gave a portion of Suzanne’s inheritance from her Dad for Doug’s new office furniture. Dad liked Doug and so do we. We wanted him to have a comfortable spot to do his work, writing, and praying when he moved to Vermont. We like to think that Dad is cheering Doug from on high.
Oh, and there’s one more thing. In 1994 an article appeared in the F@W magazine about corporate chaplains. It greatly moved me; 12 years later I am exploring the call to become a workplace chaplain!
Faith At Work is the ministry that keeps on influencing lives and making a difference in the world!
