A graduate of Radcliffe College (Harvard University), she has an M.A. in American history from the University of Alaska and an honorary doctorate from Virginia Theological Seminary -- cited for her work in lay ministry.

Marjory is a Steward at Seekers, a Church of the Saviour community in Washington, DC, where she preaches and teaches regularly. Her book, Call to the Soul, presents a template for discerning call at every stage of life. Her others books, Seasons of Friendship (Naomi & Ruth), and Braided Streams (Esther) are also designed for small group use.

The Banksons lead a yearly work pilgrimage to Guatemala for Faith@Work and make their home in Alexandria VA. Married forty+ years to Peter Bankson, retired Director of Government Relations for Communities-in-Schools.

Marjory grew up in Bellingham, Washington, taught high school history and English before serving as the first women's counselor at Dartmouth College in 1969-70. Between 1970 and 1980, Marjory worked as a professional potter and explored classical spiritual disciplines. When the Banksons moved to Washington, D.C. in 1976, she became a member of The Church of the Saviour, an ecumenical church with a strong commitment to inner spiritual growth and outward ministry by every member, now divided into nine small congregations, each with a particular mission. Marjory belongs to the Seekers Church, which is centered on advocacy for children, where she preaches frequently and teaches in the School of Christian Living.

Books by Marjory Bankson include: The Call to the Soul, This is My Body, Seasons of Friendship, and Braided Streams.
