Who Am I? Where is God?

On the first weekend in June, 1998, a band of hearty followers gathered in a small meeting room at Simpsonwood Retreat Center outside of Atlanta GA. (By the way, Simpsonwood is a great place for a retreat. Check it out!) The groups was ably led by Peter Bankson, Libby Hall, Russ McKee and Susan Smith.

The Luke 15 story of the Prodigal Son is filled with rich treasures just waiting to be explored by adventurers. The four areas of Work, Home, Spirit and Re-creation narrowed the focus. Some of the life questions considered were:

Home

    • Leaving my family of origin
    • Finding a home in the world
    • Where is God in all this?

    Work

    • What does call mean?
    • What about work that isn't call
    • Nudges to move on?

    Spirit

    • Longing for integration of the Spirit?
    • Does prayer work?
    • What does God want of me?

    Re-creation

    • What renews my spirit? My body? My life?
    • What difference does re-creation make?

Here is what some of the participants had to say...

  • The people who put it on were the best!
  • I experienced freedom - a non-judgemental environment.
  • Everyone who came brought so many gifts - songs, stories, humor!
  • The entire event was very meaningful and enriching.
  • Warm feelings; Willing participants.
  • All the materials brought for the art projects made for endless possibilities to risk and expand.
  • The re-entry diagram & presentation Peter gave on Sunday morning was excellent! I was ready to head back to a new (re-created) "home."
  • Not enough time!!
  • I appreciated the balance of time: quiet time, sharing time, free time.
  • The sharing in small groups was very meaningful.

Here's the report from the Washington DC gathering.
